But what are much worse than these are the unwanted facial hair and the naughty dead skin cells that give the skin a rough texture and dull complexion; they are such an assault for the skin as they block the pores, thus depriving your skin from the nutrients and treatment offered by your other topical skin care products, plus they can make you look drained, older, and unappealing.

What Can Peel-Off Masks Do for the Skin?

Peel-off facial masks are often more effective than normal cream, gel, or sheet mask at removing embedded blackheads, dirt, oil, makeup and other residue that clog the skin’s pores. This is because:

Their hydrating and occlusive properties are better than other types of facial masks since they are thicker and they stick to the skin even more. This enables them to absorb the blockages that are in the pores such that when they are peeled, the skin’s impurities and a layer of the skin are lifted off as well;1

They allow the pores to open up more than a cream-based mask would by forming a barrier between the skin and the environment. This function not only enhances the delivery of their nutrients onto the skin, but also prevents the exchange of gases and the invasion of bacteria into the skin.1 and,

They provide an added benefit of instantly removing blackheads and other impurities from the skin on top of providing the skin with practically the same benefits of regular facial masks, like moisturizing, whitening and restoring the skin's radiance, among the others.2

Peel-Off Facial Masks Usage Recommendations.

    • Do not use your peel-off masks more than once every three days, unless you have extremely oily skin. Otherwise, you run the risk of over-exfoliating, which can cause stress to the facial skin, loosen your muscle tone, make your skin rather sensitive, and produce skin pigmentation or the development of a new set of skin problem.3

    • Don’t leave the peel-off mask longer than as suggested. While some peel-off masks take about 15 to 30 minutes to dry, a few others are designed for overnight use. Follow our recommended use or the peel-off mask manufacturer’s advice as to how long to let the peel-off mask dry over the skin can help to avoid the problems of peeling off some of your skin’s intercellular protection. 1,2

    • Know beforehand how the peel-off mask clings firmly to the skin when dry. While spreading a thin, even layer is fine for most peel-off masks, some peel-off masks, however, cling to the skin firmly that applying them thickly would make it easier for you to remove them later. For this, it's wise to read the manufacturer’s label or test a pea-size of the product onto the skin at the back of your hand before using the facial mask on your face.

How to Use Peel-Off Masks?

Spread a nice, thin, even layer of your peel-off mask on your thoroughly cleansed facial skin, avoiding the eye area, eyebrows, hairline, and other area where it will be hard to remove the mask, give it a few minutes to dry completely, then peel it off.

Like with other facial masks, it is good to rest while the mask is on, as it helps in the better absorption of the active ingredients and the skin can also work better when your body is not multi-tasking.1

You can also check if your peel-off mask has already dried when it forms certain lifts on the edges, which makes it very easy to remove. To remove your peel-off mask, just gently pick out these edges and peel off the rest of the mask from your face.4

After peeling, you can also splash your face with cool water to tighten the pores and remove any lingering residue.3
